Welcome to Boxroom

Boxroom is an open source project that aims to develop a web application for sharing and managing files online. The goal is to let a group of people share their files with eachother. To make this possible the application lets users create folders and upload and download files in a web browser. Furthermore for administrators it will be possible to create users, user groups and the CRU/D rights these groups will have on folders.

Hello, my name is Joan Marc Carbo and I intend to further develop Boxroom. Mischa doesn't have time to keep the project going, but might join some time in the future. The first thing that needed to be done is bring boxroom back in sync with Rails current version (2.3.2), so that's what I've done (that was really easy). You can download the code as version 0.6.3. I will be using git as a control version system and update a github repository at http://github.com/jmcarbo/boxroom and keeping the releases in sync with rubyforge. The hard part will be adding new features to boxroom and writing rspec and cucumber tests to validate previous and new developments. In the next days I'll try to write down a roadmap of new features (any help would be appreciated). Happy boxrooming :-)

Hello, my name is Kale Davis and I have taken over development of Boxroom. I look forward to extending what Mischa has started here. My next steps is to get Boxroom working with Rails 2.x and moving over to a Git based repository. In the mean time, if you have any questions or comments please drop me a line via my blog.

As I am currently working 2 jobs and studying Japanese in the mean time, I don't have time to work on Boxroom anymore. I am looking for someone who wants to take over development. If you are interested please let me know: . If you want to try Boxroom, please beware of the fact that I am unsure if Boxroom runs properly on Rails 2.x. You shouldn't have any problems on Rails 1.2.x. A final note: since early 2006, Boxroom has been downloaded almost 4000 times.

Today I'm releasing Rooms for Boxes. In essence it's the same as Boxroom apart from the fact that you can create different instances of Boxroom for different groups of people. Each instance gets its own unique URL and is in no way related to any of the other instances. This is ideal for people who offer Boxroom as a service to their customers and want to keep customers seperated. Please read the README file in the zip before installing Rooms for Boxes. The app can be downloaded here.

Stian Haklev has been doing great work on Boxroom for quite a while now. He implemented Boxroom for CARE Indonesia and has added a ton of features in the process. Apart from full-text search none of his features are in the 'official' release yet. Hopefully this wil change soon. In the mean time, check out this screencast to see which features I'm talking about. You can downloads Stian's version of Boxroom as a git-repository here.
